Avocado Tomato Salad

I have been reading this graphic novel series with a theme of Japanese home cooking and learnt a lot of simple yet healthy Japanese home-style dishes. Here is one inspired by the novel.

This super easy salad can be served as a side dish, a quick snack, or double up the portion as a light lunch.

Ingredients (one serving)
1 tomato
1 avocado
1/2 tsp soy sauce
wasabi to taste
toasted sesame seeds
Bonito shavings
I love my salad loaded with sesame seeds and bonito shavings.

How

  1. Dice tomato with skin on and seed in. Peel and dice avocado to similar size. Place both diced fruit in a serving bowl.
  2. In a separate small bowl, mix together the soy sauce and wasabi. Pour it over the diced fruit and mix well gently.
  3. Sprinkle as much sesame seeds and bonito shavings as you want over the salad. Serve immediately or chill in the fridge for no more than 1/2 hr before serving.
Here is how I pack this for lunch: pack the diced fruit in a Tupperware, pack the soy wasabi dressing in a small container, and pack the dry toppings in a separate container (sesame and bonito can be packed together). Assemble the salad right before serving and you save yourself a $15 IQ lunch!
